Symptoms of Distress

Symptoms of distress arise as individuals experience normal developmental stages and problems. These symptoms are not always obvious. Some distress signals to look for are:

  • Family conflict or tension
  • Divorce or separation
  • Childhood behavioral problems
  • Difficulty coping with changing lifestyles
  • Feelings of loneliness and isolation
  • Fear, anger or guilt
  • Depression or moodiness
  • Unexplained fatigue
  • Unusual eating patterns
  • Excessive alcohol or drug use
  • Sexual disturbances
